The Dog who Guards the Heliport in Monaco

Meet Rocky the Rottweiler. A working dog, he guards the Heliport in Monaco. And when he's not working? He lives in the Medieval village of Gorbio which is where we see him today.

He is a beautifully behaved, well-trained, eight year old dog with a lovely temperament. His owner told him to jump up on the stone bench and he did - he told him to turn his head towards the sun, he did. Super dog.

Riviera Dogs has been honoured by being mentioned in Owen's fascinating blog of great B and W photographs and much more. Go to The Magic Lantern Show or...Mr. Toad's Travel Diary.

  5. Hi Jilly,
Boy, I wouldn't want to be on his bad side !

As we say in French, "Mille Fois Merci" for your wonderfully kind words here. Am going to pull out some more dog portraits for you, over the years I've been photrgraphing (not shooting) many dogs in various places. Some people say I'm barking mad !

  6. Rocky, you handsome dog! So focused, so intense... It has been my privilege to have 4 Rotts in my life - companions and clowns, all of them. Delighted to see Rocky minus the requisite French muzzle. Thanks for this photo, Jilly.

  7. Teri, when I saw Rocky I thought of you and you were the reason I really wanted to take his photograph as I remembered your comments on no Rotties on the blog. All changed now! I'll hope to put more on as I see them. And right, no muzzle. Well this is in a small hilltop village, after all.
