The Begging Aid
I wish people wouldn't use dogs as an aid to beg for money. I know some of the street people of Menton and they love their dogs but this dog is only a puppy. What's his future? I don't know how old the cat would be but it looks very young too.
I don't like seeing this either. Happily I am yet to see this in Australia --- I would hope our RSPCA would stop and fine this. I can see that puppy replaced when he is sadly older Jilly.
Perhaps they have a collar on and we don't see it. Unfortunately there really isn't a system that works to prevent this in France. In fact people sell puppies in the street sometimes and outside shopping centres. Caring people try and stop it but it's a losing battle as the police aren't interested.
Street people's dogs do seem to stay with them and not wander off - though there are sometimes lurid stories in the UK that the homeless people drug them to keep them looking quiet and sweet. I've never seen a cat used that way before! I can't believe it would stay put. Perhaps it's a local cat that just likes to turn up and sleep in the stroller.
We spent Christmas in Paris, where I saw (among other human-dog pairs) several Gypsy women begging on the sidewalks with seemingly identical Pomeranian-type dogs. The dogs were always asleep. I hope, but doubt, that they are cared for.
Jilly, I have learned the secret of why the homeless people here have dogs with them. It is so the police won't pick them up. There is no where for the dog to go, so the police can't do anything to the homeless person. It breaks my heart everytime.... I just want to take all the dogs home with me. Sadie would love that wouldn't she?? :-)
are they TIED in there?? how on earth do you keep a cat and a puppy in a stroller on the street for hours?? this is a sad story on so many levels :-(

ReplyDeleteAnimal abuse is rampant throughout the world. What possesses people, I wonder?
