Thigh Bone

This is one happy German Shepherd who walks around Menton with a thigh bone in his mouth!  Here he is in Place aux Herbes.

Passing Strangers

The seeming sadness of the dog doesn't go unnoticed by the motor cyclist.

La tristesse apparente du chien ne passe pas inaperçue pour le motocycliste.

Hunique and Vanessa

We met Hunique when she was a puppy. Now she's all grown up.

Hunique lives at the Bar/Restaurant Les Terrasses in the medieval village of Gorbio.  You can see her with her owner Vanessa in the last photo.

Olive and Jack at play ...

On Saturday I had to leave PhotoMenton to go and feed my meter. On the way I couldn't resist snapping these two playing in the Jardin Bioves.  The German Shepherd mix is called Jack and he's 5 years old. The Jack Russell terrier is called Olive and she's six months.

Don't you love it when the big dog gets down to the level of the smaller dog so they can properly play - even if it does look a bit like a fight! It's not!

A dog in Bari

Not a French Riviera dog but one in the south of Italy.   This is a German Shepherd I met in Bari, in Puglia whilst on Carla Coulson's amazing Caravan Travel Photo Workshop. Beautiful everything in Puglia - dogs, ambiance, scenery, architecture, beauty, food, people - loved it!

Spade

This beautiful black German Shepherd dog is called Spade. He's 8 years old. I met Spade by the English bookstall at the Kermesse in Monaco in November.

Hunique - the Restaurant Les Terrasses Dog

Meet 5 months old Hunique.  She's Vanessa's new puppy at the Restaurant Bar Les Terrasses in Gorbio.  Hunique is a long haired German Shepherd Dog and already is such a sweet, well-behaved puppy but is one who guards the restaurant at night.  Look at those beautiful eyes.

Tess

In the last post, we met little Victoria, who had been found in a rubbish bin at 4 weeks and now lives in the mountain village of Sospel, above Menton.

This is her new friend, Tess.  Tess was bom in the house next door and Victoria's family just had to have one of the pups.  She's now three years old and as you see, a wonderfully gentle soul.

Water Dog

This lovely dog was frolicking on the rocks on the day the Newfoundlands were giving their display. I think he wanted to prove it's not just Newfoundlands that love to swim!

Dog Training - Vickie

This beautiful German Shepherd was so well-behaved and look at those intelligent, kind eyes.

Vickie is 5 years old and lives in Menton. You can see her in the Sit/Stay exercise on the previous posting.

Venus

Venus, the German Shepherd Dog, lives on a boat in the port of Garavan in Menton. Actually, not on this boat - but on one a little further along. On the day I took the photo, she and her owner were visiting a friend on another boat, hence her being on the wrong boat. She seems quite at home tho, doesn't she? Venus is 4 years old.

Gill, the Guide Dog

Many of us think of a Guide Dog for the Blind as being a labrador, and indeed they are the most common breed used, but other breeds are Guide Dogs too. Meet a beautiful long-haired German Shepherd Dog called Gill. She is the Guide Dog for her handsome young owner who you see in the smaller photograph. They are from Holland and are sitting here under the olive tree in the Place des Deux Frères, in Roquebrune village.

Doesn't she have a beautiful face and such an intelligent expression? I have so much admiration for Guide Dogs. I used to own a labrador, Flavia, who was a Guide Dog for the Blind until she was six when sadly her owner died. She had several homes after that, until I adopted her at 9 and a half and then she lived with me till she died aged 15. A lovely dog, she was.

Ever alert

This boisterous young German Shepherd was quite a handful for his owner who was walking along with his family. I was sitting outside a café in the main square of Menton, sipping a noisette (small strong espresso with a dash of milk) when he stopped and held on to the dog whilst his wife and child went into a shop. The dog, ever alert, waits for them to return.

Monaco meeting

When dogs meet, so do their owners. These two owners look on, proudly, politely and with big smiles on their faces. A 'Hello' that took place near the gardens opposite the Place des Moulins in Monaco.

Waiting...

This beautiful dog was waiting opposite the entrance to the Fête du Citron in Menton. The man is probably waiting for his wife to come out as dogs aren't allowed into the display area. I'm not sure what he is - perhaps a German Shepherd crossed with a Husky. Whatever he is, isn't he beautiful?

Waiting...

This beautiful dog stands waiting patiently for his owner to leave a bank in Roquebrune-cap-Martin. At one point, I made a sound to get his attention and he came running to me, wagging his tail - too close, in fact, to take a photo. I told him to go back and wait for his owner and he did. A dog with a beautiful temperament.
