Life-saver
Who doesn't love a Newfie? This dog was one of many Newfoundlands in Menton demonstrating their life-saving skills in the sea.

Gus
This beautiful Landseer belongs to a lady in Gorbio village. She has two big dogs - the other being a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. Today we meet Gus who is three years old.
Next time we'll meet his friend, Ice.

The Life Saving Dogs at Menton
Newfoundlands showing their skills as life-savers at sea. This demonstration was given by the dogs and owners of 'Terre-Neuve 06' in Menton last weekend. Terre-Neuve is French for Newfoundland. They were brilliant and so funny at times when they didn't get it quite right!
You can read about this and see more photographs by clicking on Menton Daily Photo.

Half, the Drooly Newfie of Gorbio
Well, of course, all Newfoundlands drool but this lovely dog had an excuse - it was a very hot day in Gorbio last Sunday and he was waiting for the priest and the Blessing of the Animals. As you can see in the smaller photo, he eventually cooled down in the shade.
'Half' lives just above the village of Gorbio and is 7 years old.
There's a Caption Competition, with a prize, on Menton Daily Photo that features a scene from the Fête Patronale de Saint Barthélémy, of which the Blessing of the Animals was just the beginning. Click on the link to see the chicken on a pole and the Golden Apple!

Ava the Landseer
Ava is a Newfoundland, of the type called Landseer, which is always white with black patches. I just love Newfies even tho they drool somewhat! Ava is 4 years old, lives in Monaco and is walking in the gardens near to the circus tent in Fontvieille.

Circus Dogs?
These two dogs were shut up in a large pen outside the circus tent in Monaco. I was photographing the lions, elephants and sea lions when I saw this beautiful face peering through the bars.
The big one is a Newfoundland, the smaller one is a mix. Both gorgeous dogs but not very happy. I don't know if they were part of a circus act or simply dogs belonging to a member of the circus and kept in this pen for the day. You can see other shots on Monte Carlo Daily Photo.

Dog Training - Myle
The other evening I popped along to watch the dog training class in Roquebrune. It's called Amicale du Chien and is run by a really nice lady called Miriam.
Meet a 13 month old Newfoundland called Myle. And see how good she is in the smaller photograph where she and three others are practicing their 'stays.' Myle lives in La Turbie. Isn't she gorgeous? - like a big cuddly black bear.
We'll meet these other three dogs another day and several more too.

Landseer
One hot pup here. It was on Brocante Day in Menton. Hot afternoon sun and this little (what am I saying?) boy is only 4 months of age. A beautiful Newfoundland. When they are black and white like this they are called Landseer.
