Papillon?

Maybe a Papillon or a Papillon mix.  Cute anyway ...

Indy

Let's have another dose of cuteness.  Meet Indy.  He's a one year old Papillon who lives in Nice.  I think he knows how cute he is!

Boy or girl?

This little Papillon has a rather smart travelling case, don't you think?  She - or perhaps he? - was at the San Remo show. So bright, so pretty.

Estrelia

Estrelia - isn't that a pretty name. She is a one year old Papillon who lives in Menton and obviously adores her owner.

Papillon, of course is French for butterfly.

The Three Papillons - part 2

Yesterday, we met Fiore - now meet Ventos, who is ten and looking gloriously windswept as if he's posing with a fan blowing his hair for effect.

And in the last photo, this is Bijou and he's 5 years old.

See yesterday's post for a photo of all three Papillons together.

The Three Papillons - part 1

This family have three Papillons - 'butterfly' dogs and so called because of the pattern created by their beautiful ears and the design running down their faces).

Today we meet Fiore, who is seven years old and a male. All three are males and I met them in Menton where they were holidaying from Basle in Switzerland.

Come back tomorrow and meet the other two.

The Performing Dogs at the Monte Carlo Circus - 4

This little Papillon or Papillon-mix is sitting at the back of the enclosure, not at all interested in the people looking in. Papillons are, by nature, a little wary of strangers so perhaps that accounts for it although a circus dog must have to meet all sorts, one would think.

Pepito

A really cute little Papillon in Fontvieille, Monaco but he wouldn't keep still, wouldn't look at the camera, so this is the best I could do. Papillons, by nature and breeding, are wary of strangers, so it's not a surprise.

The owner of Pepito - who is 10 years old, by the way - said he's not a pure-bred Papillon but is a cross between a Papillon and a Chihuahua is, apparently, known as a Chihuahua Irlandais (Irish). I can find no reference to this breed anywhere so have listed him here as a Papillon as he looks like one.

I've often found dogs in France called something that doesn't exist - sold to owners as a specific breed when there is no such thing.

Myrtille

The Papillon - or Butterfly Dog - so named because of the enormous ears with their fringes. If the ears are 'down' then they are known as Phaelene - or Moth Dogs.

Meet Myrtille - very much a Papillon - who lives in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. She's 9 years old and looking very well for her age, don't you think?

The Island of Réunion dog

This little bundle of love is called Noella - just a pup. She was born in the French Island of Réunion, where tragically live and dead dogs are used as shark bait. A wonderful lady in Villeneuve-Loubet brings dogs and puppies into France to rehome them. Noella was never in danger of being used as shark bait, but she came along anyway, via the lady, and now lives happily in Menton. Her wonderful 87-year old owner told me she is a Royal Bourbon Papillon. I can't find any reference to this breed, as such, except that the Papillon is featured in many old masters. A papillon is supposed to have been carried by Marie-Antoinette as she walked to the gallows and the older Papillons perhaps resemble Noella more than the modern ones.

At the circus - 1

This little Papillon was one of many dogs waiting whilst their owners watched the circus in the port of Monaco today. You can see what everyone was watching by clicking on the link.

Train Two

This cute Papillon (Butterfly Dog) was sitting on her owner's lap on the Menton to Nice train. I asked if she had to buy a ticket for her and she said that in theory she should have one but that she never bothered. It seems the inspectors are kind and allow her to travel free. I'd hope so! Don't these two belong so well together. Proud owner, proud dog. The dog is so small but she has a certain confident dignity, don't you think?
