Ted

Ted, the Westie and Cilla, the Scottie, are saying at Pension Milou at the moment. When their owners first called I said 'No.' I love both breeds but have had bad experiences in the past with them being snappy with other dogs. So 'no' it was. Later, my vet called and asked if I'd reconsider and she confirmed they have wonderful temperaments - and goodness, they do. These two are angels.

They were bred in the UK, have been living in Las Vegas for a while but now they live in Monaco. We'll meet Ted's other half, Cilla, another time.

And how cute is Ted? That's Roxy, the Cavalier, in the background, by the way.

A Yorkie's Ears...

Have you noticed how, when you get a Yorkie's attention, it can put its ears back? Really saying...'ok, what do you want?'

That was the case with this little one who was out walking along the sea at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin one day. I took it last January and can't for the life of me find where I wrote his or her name.

Gina's Eyes

Those eyes would stop a sheep at 50 metres, wouldn't they?

This young Border Collie (she's one year old) lives in Beausoleil, which forms part of the border of Monaco and France - doubt she'll find any sheep where she lives...

Her name is Gina and she lives with her owners, a lovely young couple who were walking her in the hills around the medieval village of Gorbio.

Thirsty Ayron

This is Ayron, a 6 year old Cane Corso Mastiff, taking a drink out of the fountain in the medieval village of Gorbio where he lives with the little bichon you see in the smallest photo.

Later, Boutchette, the Bassett Hound who is one of the Restaurant Beausejour dogs, flirts with him!

To see a very different photo of this fountain - decorated for a wedding, please click on the link - last photo on page.

Sorry, photos could be better but hopefully you'll still enjoy seeing this lovely dog.

This link tells you about the Cane Corso Mastiff, a breed from Italy.

The Chef's Hello

No close up of this little bichon but I couldn't resist snapping the chef bending down to say 'bonjour.' This was taken in the ancient village of La Turbie which is on the Grande Corniche above Monaco.

Pedro

This is 9 year old Pedro from Milan. I met him in Menton. Isn't he gorgeous. He's a border collie mix.

Nourse

For anyone that follows my Menton Daily Photo blog, they will know this was taken outside the Beausejour restaurant in the medieval village of Gorbio - the pot in the last photo is a giveaway.

This adorable bundle is 7-month old Nourse, a little girl who was born and lives in Gorbio. She is probably a mix of Yorkshire terrier and Shih-tzu but as her owner said, you never know with the village dogs!

Rustine at the Winter Palace

Not all Yorkies have ears that stand up. This is eleven year old Rustine and her ears are down and isn't she lovely. Looks like she's been to the coiffeur recently.

Rustine is a very privileged dog as she lives at the Winter Palace, a beautiful Belle Epoque building in Menton.

We'll be visiting it one day in the not too distant future on Menton Daily Photo.

Peggy

I love boxers but confess I don't take them at Pension Milou simply because they can be rather dominant with other dogs. Doesn't stop me liking them tho...

This is Peggy who is 4 years old and lives in Menton, which is where I met her the other day.

Duma

It's no surprise that Weimaraners make such wonderful photographic subjects as they produce such a variety of funny expressions. Take a look at William Wegman's amazing photography.

However, not all of them keep still! Not surprising. They are an incredibly active breed - and SO beautiful.

I met Duma, who is two and a half years old in Menton. She lives in Cuneo in Italy.

Venus

A Doberman with cropped ears. I thought it was banned but perhaps not in France. She's a lovely girl tho - called Venus, 7 years old and lives in Paris. We met in Ventimiglia, just across the Italian border, a short while ago.

Apologies for the bleached out background - too much sun that day - well that's my excuse...

Milla, the Mexican Hairless

This is a much-travelled Mexican Hairless dog. Milla was born in Sweden, now lives in Switzerland and was walking along the port of Saint Jean-Cap-Ferrat when I met her yesterday. She's one year old.

Frisbee's Mama

We met little Frisbee in the last posting. This is her Mama, Astule. She's 5 years old. Yorkies are so expressive with their ears, aren't they? Up, down, back...

Frisbee

Another hot dog I met in Ventimiglia market. This is Frisbee, aged one year. His mother was being walked on a lead and we'll meet her next time. I think this family came from Belgium but I can't read my writing...

Me and my Shadow in Ventimiglia

A hot dog fixed to a wall at a beach in Ventimiglia. At ten in the morning it was bearable but later reached around 37 degrees - too hot for me. Hopefully this dog had been taken home long before then.

Swim?

Well...not a very good photo of a dog swimming but I know readers sometimes like to see the context of where we are. This is the River Roya which joins the sea at Ventimiglia, just across the border in Italy. All those vans you see in the background are part of the chaos of Ventimiglia's famous Friday market.

Meanwhile...a dog and his family are enjoying the water.

The Bussana Vecchia dog

This dog lives in Bussana Vecchia, a medieval village across the border in Italy. It was totally destroyed in an earthquake in 1887 and then slowly restored in the 1960s. You can look at Menton Daily Photo to follow the story of this amazingly beautiful village.

Whilst photographing the village, I snapped this dog. Know nothing about him except he's a Siberian Husky or pretty much so.

The Mutt

Don't you just love dogs like this. I don't know his (or her) name or where he lives. The photo was taken in Menton so perhaps he's a local. He looks a good age, doesn't he?

Italian Miss

The last few days I've been deleting a ton of photos as my hard drive is fast filling up and came across this little dog. I took it about 18 months ago when I'd gone to Latte to shop. Latte is the first village across the border in Italy - they have a good supermarket there. This little cutie was sitting in the bar with her owner. I took a few shots but when I got home decided they were all out of focus. The smaller one is, but the first one isn't - so here she is, rather later than intended.

Of course I've forgotten her name, how old she is but remember how cute she was. You don't see many Japanese Chin around here although I did recently hear there were two Japanese Chin pups available in the Monaco SPA.

Pepita

Pepita is a Pyrenean Sheepdog (sometimes called a l'Abri here). She belongs to my neighbour and she looks a ragamuffin because I just trimmed her - rather badly - with scissors, but in my defence we always have a bit of a battle on trimming day. I'll tidy up those wispy ends...

She lives with her friend Shadow, a Golden Retriever, who guards her jealously. We'll meet Shadow another time.
